"Acquapendente is located in the extreme north of Lazio near the border with Tuscany and Umbria, about 10 km north of the beautiful Lake Bolsena. It seems that where today is located the village, there was an Etruscan center then inhabited by the Romans and later invaded and destroyed by the fury of the Longobardi. But this is not certain, and also seems very likely the idea of a birth of the urban core around the parish church of Santa Vittoria along the important Via Francigena, between the 9th and 10th centuries.
The historical tradition reports an essential event for Acquapendente, probably occurred in the period of the struggle between the papacy and the empire: the ""Miracle of the Madonna del Fiore"" of 1166, after which the inhabitants of Acquapendente would have rebelled destroying the castle, symbol of the feudal system.
