Holidays Villas and Farmhouses in Ortignano Raggiolo

The history of the two villages of Ortignano and Raggiolo starts from the 13th century. In this period, the Conti Guidi of Poppi founded a castle in Ortignano, as evidenced by an imperial act of Frederico II dated back to this period, around the castle gathered the community of Ortignano. Raggiolo on the contrary, since its foundation was under the jurisdiction of the Ubertini. In the territory, at that time, there were then present many castles and fortifications of ancient origins. Today these fortifications are only some impressive remains.
In the 14th century the two villages of Ortignano and Raggiolo were granted by Charles IV to the Bishopric of Arezzo who retained control until the mid-century, when the Republic of Florence took possession of the territory. Among the most important monuments we can mention the Pieve of Saints Matteo and Margherita and the Museum of the Chestnut.
