Description

Casa Rossa is a suggestive farmhouse of very remote origins. It stands in a very panoramic and peaceful position, overlooking vineyards and olive groves. It can be reached by following an unpaved road (1,5 km) that winds its way through rows of vineyards, and even before you get there you will feel you have been catapulted into another era. The origins of this house are in fact very old and date back at least to 1500, as documented in the register of souls of the parish of Pieve San Giovanni.

The owners, Leone and Giuseppe, have intentionally maintained its rustic, almost medieval appearance in order to preserve its noble origins. The wooden and brick ceilings, the original terracotta floors and the simple and essential furnishings are a rare example of the rural tradition in Tuscany. The farmhouse is particularly suitable for couples or families who love nature and simplicity and want to get away from modern life for a while.

You will find yourself facing an incomparable view on summer evenings, sitting by the pool (size 5 x 9 m, depth 1.20 m, private for guests - open from 18 May to 14 September) or dining in the furnished pergola in front of the house.  And if you feel like leaving the quiet of the place for a while, the city of Arezzo is reachable in 15 minutes by car, and throughout the year it offers countless folkloristic and cultural events, including the Giostra del Saracino and the Antique Fair.
For horse lovers, there is a riding school less than 500 m from the house that organises rides through the vineyards and hills.

    Exceptional stay

We had an exceptional stay at Casa Rossa. Leone was incredibly welcoming, supporting us however he could, coming immediately to help when we couldn't work the dishwasher, and even helping us in our hour of need when a taxi didn't arrive (we had no other issues the rest of the trip). The house itself is a stunning rustic tuscan home, equipped with everything you could need - two bathrooms, a full kitchen, outdoor dining area and barbecue. The pool is a good size, surrounded by flowers and overlooking breathtaking views of the tuscan hills. We were a group of six and were very comfortable our entire stay. I would thoroughly recommend staying at Casa Rossa and we will definitely be returning! It is also worth mentioning we did not have a car, and managed fine without. It is around £25-40 for a taxi to Arezzo depending on timing and group size, and there was a free bus from Pieve San Giovanni to local villages including Castelluccio where there are a couple of bars and restaurants and a supermarket. All very achievable with some forward planning, and a perfectly tranquil place to stay whilst still having access to surrounding areas!

    A really good place

Casa Rossa is an absolute gem! Tucked away in a secluded location amongst the vineyards and olive groves, it is full of rustic charm and has a wonderful outlook across to Arezzo in the distance. We loved the simplicity of the interior (this is not the place for people who love their modern utilities and wide screen TVs), we enjoyed eating out on the terrace and the pool was perfect. We also really enjoyed eating out in the local pizzeria - lovely staff and great food, and highly recommended. All in all this was the perfect base to explore Tuscany and to enjoy the warm Italian sunshine.

The perfect spot for an absolute wind down

The house is simple and clean. Everything you need is there except for a washing machine and a dish washer - but that is luxury anyhow. There are laundry places in Arezzo and surroundings. The place emanates authenticity and serenity. Just plain nature - surrounded by Olive trees with a beautiful panoramic view down to the Arno valley. If you look for a holiday to wind down and enjoy the simple things in life and nature - this is the spot to be. Giuseppe and Alfredo, who come to feed the cats and clean the pool are both lovely. With a bit of French and very little of Italian from our side - we were able to communicate. We spend most of the time under the pergola in the garden enjoying the birds and the quiet. Just the kitty cats visiting once in a while. The pool is clean and a nice size. I would suggest to bring your own towels. I will definitively go there again. The birds concert at dusk is just mesmerizing. Shopping facilities are near Arezzo or in Arezzo. A beautiful town worthwhile visiting. Some of the movie Life is beautiful was shot there. The cathedral is impressive. We were there beginning of June and had beautiful weather.

Very lovely house with an asthonishing view

The house is nicely renovated in old style, perfect for 4-6 people. Well equipped kitchen , except no dishwasher. Nice terrace outside in the shade. Perfect swimming pool. Very nice view on the valley of Arezzo. The house is quietly situated at the end of a not-paved road. There is a washing machine and an extra bathroom. There's a stair to enter the house so you need to be mobile. Perfect for a family with older children.

    Beautiful house

Beautiful location with super views! Everything was neat and tidy inside. The owners are sympathetic, communication was a bit difficult (they speak almost no English). The road to the house takes some getting used to, unpaved with potholes and narrow. Swimming pool was lovely, cleaned every other day and the terrace is very beautiful with grapes above your head. Be sure to bring mosquito/fly spray. BBQ available is very useful. Is not suitable for people who have difficulty walking due to... to kick. There is a scoop in the area for shopping, but there is one even closer. Had a delicious meal in Arezzo at a local restaurant, tasty and not expensive. Also went to a farmhouse in Arezzo, Fattoria il muro. For €15 on delicious tastings and small snacks. Be sure to take cash with you, because you cannot use your debit card there. Went to Florence by train from Arezzo. Parking at the station. Ticket machine available at the station. Also went to Sienna by car, leave early otherwise you won't have a parking space. All in all a lovely house with a great location. Highly recommended!
