Rigomagno is a charming, medieval village 411 meters above sea level, placed at the entrance of that part of Valdichiana which belongs to Siena area and is immersed in the typical, Tuscan countryside. The first known settlements seems to date back to the Etruscan period. In the era of the Republic of Siena the village became a castle of great strategic importance and still today the 14th century walls surround a Roman road structure. When the castle passed into the hands of the Medici family in 1552, it was decided to demolish most of the walls. Since then, the village has not undergone significant changes, except for the installation of the water tower (tank) in the early 20th Century. Apart from the remains of the fortification, walls, gates and towers, the main monuments of Rigomagno are the church of San Marcellino, the public Cistern of 1800 and the old Praetorian Palace.
